Great deals near you for on information about the United Mercantile Federation Army’s weapons and equipment! Available for a limited time only! Certain terms and conditions may apply.
Faction: UMFA
Stat Block:
Primary Skills: Tactics (UMFA), Awareness (Battlefield), Institutions (UMFA), Gunnery (Small Arms), Athletics (Pack Training), Mechanics (Combat Engineering)
Secondary Skills: Mechanics (Demolition), Medicine (First Aid), Electronic Warfare (Forward Observation), Pilot (Ground Vehicle), Survival (Navigation), Melee (Close Assault), Survival (Emergency Survival), Gunnery (Heavy Weapons)
Squad Organization:
UMFA Regulars follow standard Norguard infantry Squad organization, through the formation of Weapons Squads is discouraged. UMFA Guards use a similar structure but each Fire Team has 2 Support Weapons, resulting in a total of 4 for a regular Squad. Some Guards Squads are organized as permanent Weapons Squads with a total of 6 Support Weapons overall.
Uniform:
The UMFA dress uniform is a green jacket with black pants, with a white cravat, short gloves, and spats. A green and black peaked cap is worn outdoors.
Standard Armor: Northco Tactical Assault Vest
A ballistic cloth carrier set with a ceramic-durasteel plate that can be worn as a vest or fastened on the front of the UMFA uniform jacket. The TAV is so emblematic of the UMFA that it is sometimes even worn as part of the dress uniform. (Medium Flak, Vest)
Main Weapon: Northco AR-9 Assault Rifle
A boxy bullpup carbine used as an alternative to the AR-12. Originally designed for Northco corporate security, the integrated grenade launcher was intended to tear-gas protestors but has proved useful in the field as well. (Medium Carbine, Underslung Grenade Launcher)
Main Weapon: Northco SG-6M Shotgun
An autoloading shotgun designed as a cheap close assault weapon for the UMFA’s regular forces. Its stopping power is weak relative to most comparable models, leading to the unflattering nickname of “the tickler” from troops who have seen its shots bounce off enemy armor. (Light Shotgun)
Sidearm: Northco SM-85 High Capacity Machine Pistol
A short-ranged machine pistol with an extended magazine. Not a bad gun by any means, but has attracted constant criticism for its selection as the UMFA’s standard sidearm despite not actually meeting the requirements. The SM-85 might be more significant as a political landmark than as a weapon, showing when the rest of the Corporate Council began to turn against Northco. (Medium Machine Pistol, Ammo Efficient)
Sidearm: Webtech Marauder
A simplified mass-production version of WebTech’s famous “security special” pistols, the Marauder maintains its predecessor’s excellent balance and the ability to be adjusted to personal requirements. They are issued exclusively to Guards units. (Light Pistol, High Quality, User Lock)
Melee Weapon: Forge Weapons IVB-9 Vibroknife
A large vibroknife with a longer and thicker blade than the IF-VB2. While of good quality, the IVB-9 is essentially redundant in its role, and is rumored to only have been adopted by the UMFA in order to give them a standard weapon not manufactured by a Northco affiliate for the purposes of skirting CNCS antitrust laws. (Heavy Vibroknife)
Support Weapon: Northco XSL-03FT Marksman Sniper Laser
The Marksman is probably the single most renowned infantry weapon on Terra Nova, and this reputation is entirely deserved. Already beyond the cutting edge of weapons technology at the time of its introduction, the Marksman has been continually revised to incorporate every new development in laser technology, even to the point of extremely diminishing returns as the sophistication of the weapon outstrips the human ability to make use of it. Because of this it is also easily the most expensive infantry weapon ever made, and access is jealously guarded. Accept no substitutes. (Medium Sniper Laser, Reliable, High Quality, User Lock)
Support Weapon: Ankerson G-17 Grenade Launcher
A fully automatic belt-fed grenade launcher that requires a tripod mount to fire. Although superficially similar in design to other Northern heavy weapons intended to be used defensively, the G-17 is actually intended to be used offensively to flush targets out of cover. It has also proved popular among corporate security when loaded with nonlethal rounds. (Heavy Grenade Launcher, Rapid Fire, Heavy Recoil)
Support Weapon: WebTech Vanguard
A simple, average sniper rifle produced en masse to cover for the extremely limited quantities of Marksmans. Although the Vanguard is a perfectly functional weapon, it has acquired a poor reputation because of how comprehensively the Marksman outshines it. Regulars tend not to mind, but Guards sharpshooters assigned Vanguards have a tendency to see it as an insult from their supply officers. (Medium Sniper Rifle)
Support Weapon: Ankerson M-22 Mortar
A collapsible “kit mortar” assembly that can be mounted to a Norguard-standard rifle frame, allowing field conversion of small arms to fire support. While effective in trials, the M-22 has earned a bad reputation among riflemen who dislike having to lug around mortar rounds. (Medium Mortar, Frame)
Support Weapon: Northco GU-124 Sixpack
An infantry-scale six-barreled minigun that fires standard rifle rounds at an extremely high rate. The Sixpack has not seen adoption outside the UMFA, since issues with recoil dampening mean it can only be accurately fired in very short bursts, negating most of its apparent advantages. It is, however, extremely popular in action movies across the North. (Light Machine Gun, Rapid Fire, Unreliable)
Support Weapon: Northco XMW-05R Flashboiler
While effective for crowd control, microwave weapons have usually been considered a dead end on the battlefield. The Flashboiler attempts to change that, being designed to use extremely high intensity microwaves to literally cook enemies alive inside their armor. It has actually proven relatively effective at this, though its low effective range and tendency to burn out its own reflector dish during sustained fire have led to it being deployed only infrequently. (Medium Microwave Gun, Advanced, Fixed Ammunition: Incendiary, Inferior Weapon, Rapid Drop-Off)
Support Weapon: Northco XRG-01 Portable Railgun
A large rifle with a larger barrel shroud, concealing Terra Nova’s first infantry-use rail weapon. Reverse-engineered from captured CEF designs, the XRG-01 fires a magnetically-propelled sabot at extremely high velocity. The XRG-01 was intended as a alternative to traditional anti-gear rifles and has real advantages on portability and range, but the amount of additional training needed to operate and repair the weapon has prevented it from seeing much use, even among Guards regiments. The troops that do know how to use it tend to like it, especially as a “can opener” against enemy powered armor. (Heavy Rifle, Advanced, Heavy Recoil, Special Design, User Lock, High Quality, Ammo Lock: Armor Piercing, Prebuilt)
Extra: Northern Interoperability
All CNCS League armed forces use Norguard equipment in addition to locally manufactured weapons.
Extra: Guards! Guards!
The UMFA is divided at the brigade level between Guards and Regulars. Guards formations are equipped with the latest and best gear, while Regulars are less so. In infantry terms, Regulars are very unlikely to have equipment with the High Quality trait.
New Weapon Trait: Fixed Ammunition
This weapon can only use the listed type of ammunition. -1 PL.
Author’s Note: Ankerson and Webtech are both Northco subsidiaries.
