NuCoal Montagnard Squad
NuCoal territory is large and its population dispersed however Westridge Range splits the alliance’s territory into two halves’. This, the Serpentine Range to the nations west and the occasionally rocky terrain in certain areas of the badlands combined to force NuCoal military planners to include mountaineering capability within the fledgling NSDF. The Lancier mountaineering gear was chosen for adaptation to NSDF use but doctrine was still an issue. NSDF officers went on trips to observe CNCS and AST operations in mountainous regions and used their experience to develop the Montagnard formations. These units are used as long-range patrols and rapid response units along the mountain ranges. Composed only of Lanciers, this has forced pilots to adapt their tactics to the more short-range capabilities of their machines. Their large pickaxes and spike guns designed for climbing have become a central aspect of Montagnard tactics. Pilots set themselves up in a position that is difficult for their opponents to reach while peppering them with shots. Once close enough the Montagnard pilots strike quickly and with speed to end the fight. This type of tactic has also served them well in urban environments. Many invaders have met their end with a Lancier spike through their machine’s chest.
Using Specialist Combat Groups in Heavy Gear Blitz!
Constructing a Specialist Combat Group is a bit different than a normal Blitz! combat group. Instead of picking the role and secondary role for the unit and filling it how you please, you must instead adhere to strict rules for composition, which may even include only running specific variants or upgrades. In exchange for adhering to this rigid formation, you may be able to run some models in a Role they may not normally fit in, or gain access to some unique options.
These groups may not be given secondary roles, and are only able to be used in armies from the force they come from, unless noted otherwise. They may however have any upgrades permitted by army and sublist rules, so long as the composition requirements are still met. Restrictions on the number of a specific variant apply as normal, for example, if a Specialist Combat Group is taken in the SK role, then model variants without SK+ may only be taken twice.
